The first stage of pattern cutting

The first stage of pattern cutting is to convert the three-dimensional shape of the last into a flat two-dimensional template, known as a ‘forme’.

A ‘standard’ template is then developed from this forme, and all production patterns are cut from it. These two-dimensional pattern pieces are shaped so they can be stitched together to form the finished three-dimensional design.
